Portrait of doctor and her family during pandemic
Jean: “Working as a resident physician in the time of COVID has been a mixture of gratitude and guilt. I am grateful for the health of my family and loved ones. I’m grateful to be employed. I’m grateful to feel useful. But I also feel guilty that I could be exposing my family to COVID. I feel guilty that I’m actually enjoying the opportunity to work from home and spend extra time with my family. And I feel guilty that I have been relatively protected from exposure to COVID, unlike many of my colleagues. COVID has turned our world upside down—I am trying to hold my family close as we make our way through.”
